Lady Tanisha

We had Tanisha's Birthday party today and it was great! Inspired by Jane Austen, we had an English Tea (minus the tea). Chrissy's backyard looked great and the food was amazing. Everyone came dressed up or with hats. Tanisha found a couple great dresses online and Susan rented an awesome dress with the perfect hat. Tanisha made my hat and let me borrow one of her dresses and, luckily, had a shawl for me to cover up with. I still don't know why they were worried about their ankles and not other body parts back in the day. Anyway, these are just some of the pictures. I love your thoughtful pose Tanisha. Happy Birthday!!

George Washington

I have been reading a biography of George Washington the last couple weeks and I found out that I had a few misconceptions about our #1 President. The whole cherry tree thing-never happened. It was just something made up by some guy from his conception of how he thought GW was. The famous picture of Him leading the army across the Delaware, standing at the front of the boat - didn't happen exactly like that. There were quite a few things I know I learned in school that turned out to be not quite accurate and I have to say that, at first, I was dissappointed that GW wasn't the perfect youth and man that I thought he was. However, I think I like him even more now because he wasn't perfect and he conquered most of his imperfections to become a great man. One other thing about him I didn't know was that at the end of the war there were those that wanted GW to take control of the country in a military "coup" of sorts. GW would have none of it and stopped this idea. The biographer states " He was sufficiently selfconfident, assured about who he was and what he had acheived, to ignore all whisperings of his indispensability." I loved this because I think it shows that George Washington was humble and believed in a higher power and was so secure in this knowledge that he was not swayed by the temptation of being the dictator of America. (Maybe some similar feelings as Ammon. See Alma 26:12) I think we all can do great things if we are all more self assured and confident that we are children of God and that He is in control and in His strength we can do all things.

She's Home!

Melody got home last night and I was SO glad to see her. 10 days was way too long. She was excited to see her friends and to get back to school. She got to go to the Tucson Zoo with her dad and also to Horton Hears a Who (she told me this was a very good movie and I should see it. She says she will even come with me if I want her to. ) I love you Melody!

Missing Melody

I sure am missing Melody this week. She really is a fun little girl and there is always some animal party or game going on (usually kitty in nature). It has been TOO quiet and I admit it, I am lonely. I walked by her room and Blacky looked like I felt... Hopefully spring break will be over soon.

A Good Memory

I was going through some old pictures and I found this one. It's from my 21st BDay party that Donelle put on for me. It was a lot of fun...good food, fun and friends. Oh, to be 21 again

Valentine's Surprise

This is a little late but I had to put these on. Melody loved Valentine's Day this year. She said it was the best holiday ever...after her birthday and Christmas. She liked her pink Hello Kitty shirt, from mom, for obvious reasons and she Really liked her surprise present from the Gardners! So, thanks Tanisha and boys. We love Melody's new outfit.

My 6 Random Facts

Tanisha tagged me and so here are my random facts. (Tanisha also said I was a nerd so #1 is for her)

1. I am a nerd but I delivered the worst speech EVER as valedictorian. (The speech was good the delivery... let's just say it was unforgetable) other nerd facts, I was in Academic Decathalon and won awards in Fine Arts and Economics all 3 years and I won a speech contest centered on the United Nations and got to go to New York for 3 weeks.

2. I don't like iceberg lettuce and actually did not eat ANY lettuce by choice until I was around 20 years old (It smells weird and feels strange). I do eat dark green lettuce now but I have a hard time with the iceberg variety, especially if it is shredded up...It feels hairy. Even more curious is I can smell a burrito at Taco Bell and I know if there is a wayward, hairy piece of lettuce inside.

3. I like to do hair for proms and have even done a few for weddings (My sisters). I am a little out of practice though.

4. I am becoming proficient at the blind date thanks to friends and family...bless your hearts.

5. I have had a bruise on my left leg for 2 years now. I got it falling off the top of my 6 ft ladder while trimmimg one of my trees (No, I was not standing on the rung that says..DO NOT STAND HERE. I was right below it and I did throw the pruning shears out of the way so I did not get stabbed) It was actually really embarassing some neighbors saw me fall on that lovely Sat morning.

6. I hate the movie Robin Hood Men In Tights. This partly stems from the fact that I got grounded for a whole month after seeing it at the theater when I was 15. The school dance was cancelled and that's where my older friends ended up. (Donelle and Leslie to name a couple) But it was all because of Chris Thompson telling my parents that the hammer came down. I think he really enjoyed my punishment.

Why I Love Donelle

I just have to write about Donelle. I think you are the best person and friend ever!! I love you for making me be more social and helping me survive and remember that I am an okay person after I had thought otherwise for a number of years. I love your girls nights and parties. I love your service projects and DP runs to Sonic. I love your kind and generous heart and for your good example in EVERY area of your life. I love that I can tell you anything and you won't make fun of me. I love that you and Randy have a good marriage and prove that it can happen. I love our old memories from high school ...from skiing and cars breaking down to speeding ticket, concerts, trips, the lake, mountains, trailor living and MGFP! I love that we have great new memories and that our kids are friends. I love that even in hard times you roll up your sleeves and get to work and, even under attack, you turn the other cheek. You are one of the most Christ-like women I know. YOU ROCK!!
